Beyond the Sea is the English version of the song La Mer, composed by Charles Trenet. Jack Lawrence wrote the English lyrics which, unlike the original French version that talks about the seas eternal beauty, speak of a lover waiting across the sea. The song was recorded by Bobby Darin in 1959 and became one of his biggest hits, epitomizing the swing and big band era.
