How He Loves was written following the death of John Mark McMillans best friend, Stephen Coffey. Stephen was at a prayer meeting at church and prayed If it takes my death for revival to come to Charlotte, so be it. Later that same night after leaving the prayer meeting, Stephen was killed in a car accident. His death inspired McMillan to write the song, reflecting on Gods deep and indescribable love, even in the midst of tragedy and sorrow.
