Octopuss Garden was inspired by a trip Ringo Starr took to Sardinia in 1968. During a lunch with the captain of his yacht, he learned how octopuses scour the sea floor for stones and shiny objects to create gardens. Starr was fascinated by the idea and began writing the song, with help from George Harrison to finish it.
