Stand By Me was inspired by Ben E. Kings personal experiences combined with the gospel spiritual Lord Stand by Me. It was written by Ben E. King along with the famous songwriting team, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. King did not initially intend to record the song himself, but upon the encouragement of the songwriters, he did. It became one of Kings most significant hits and has since been covered by many artists around the globe.
