Noite Feliz foi composta em 1818 por Franz Xaver Gruber com letra de Joseph Mohr na pequena cidade de Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Áustria. Foi apresentada pela primeira vez na Véspera de Natal na Igreja de São Nicolau. A criação da canção ocorreu de maneira quase acidental, após descobrirem que o órgão da igreja estava quebrado, necessitando de uma música que pudesse ser tocada com guitarra.
