Perfect by Ed Sheeran was inspired by his then-girlfriend and now wife, Cherry Seaborn. Sheeran stated he wanted to write a song that would be his version of Elton Johns Your Song. In an interview, he explained that the song was written quite quickly because he knew exactly what he wanted to say. It is part of his third studio album, ÷ (Divide), released in 2017.
