Happy Birthday to You, originally called Good Morning to All, was composed by Patty Hill and her sister Mildred J. Hill in 1893. Patty was a kindergarten principal and Mildred was a pianist and composer. They wrote the song to be easily sung by children. The birthday celebratory lyrics came later and the tune gradually became recognized as Happy Birthday to You. Its widespread use at birthday parties began in the early 20th century.
